Inventing Pranamat
Pranamat was invented by health and wellness specialists, yoga professionals, designers and entreprenuers that have come together to create unique and effective eco-friendly products. Our gaol was to create very high-qualified, original, safe and friendly massage mat for those who always asking for the best.

Shape of the main part of Pranamat Eco, «lotus», was designed by the famous european designer of furniture and things for living, Stanislav Katz.

Why did we choose the lotus flower for our Pranamats? What makes it so special? The lotus flower is one of most ancient and deepest symbols known to mankind. It symbolizes long life, health, honour, beauty and good luck.

About a year we experimented with the shape details of lotus, tried various combinations of radius of its petals peaks and plastics to find the most sharp and safe. The 195th prototype was approved for final shape.

Meanwhile our specialists were searching for other parts and materals — we needed certified pure cotton, linen, zippers, coconut fiber plates, threads. Some of those specailists later became a core of our quality control department.

But of course there is nothing new under the sun — the same acupressure methods have been used since thousands years ago by various nations. Traditional Eastern and Western healing methods include a number of skin stimulating techniques.

The first evidence of acupressure can be found in the «Book of Nature of Life» written in 2637 BC by request of emperor Xuan-Di by doctors Ci-Bo and Van-Chu-He. It consists of 18 tomes.

Hippocrate, the ancient Greek father of medicine, whos oath is still taken by all doctors, recommended acupressure as a method of lessening pain. There are many examples throughout history of successful acupressure use. To name just a few: Julius Caesar, ancient Roman physicians, ancient Greeks, Russian folk healers, and the philosopher Porphyry Ivanov, who were curing practically everything by using skin stimulation techniques.

All these various experiences are essentially similar to the «bed of nails», long favoured by Hindu mystics.

The first modern prototype was produced in Russia in 1980'ties and approved by the Department of Health (National Institute of Physical Education, Central Institute of Traumatology, Institute of Neurosurgery, Institute of Experimental Surgery, and the Second Moscow Medical Institute). It was mass-produced and distributed and eventually could be bought in any drug store. A documentary was filmed and aired on national television. In 1980, thousands of people shared their experiences and described recoveries from an amazing number of different diseases as a result of this form of skin stimulation. Ailments noted included: arthritis, asthma, bone fractures, breast cancer, cerebral palsy, diabetes, frequent colds and flu, gastric ulcers, high blood pressure, insomnia, leukaemia, low blood pressure, osteomyelitis, radiation syndrome, sarcoma, varicose veins.

The testimonials revealed that the positive effects were more reliable and longer lasting than similar effects from drug treatments. Plus, no side or adverse effects were reported. Among the most reproducible benefits mentioned were the following:

  1. Pain, spasms and stress relief;
  2. immune system enhancement;
  3. metabolic level increase; and
  4. regenerative, anti-inflammatory and anti-tumor action.

In 1996-97, the Community Holistic Health Centre in Carrboro, NC, USA, conducted a research pilot study (122) of the new (American) version of the device. This device was a flexible mat with 1320 pyramidal pointed 'needles' arising from the base.

In the last years few other companies have come up with new versions of the «bed of nails».
Our Pranamat is one of the latest versions. It is a unique design that combines the best experience massage mats can offer with a beautiful design and highest quality natural materials.
We believe that beauty is a power healer by itself. That is why instead of the usual nails we use beautiful Lotus flowers. There is also a choice of different colours that have a deep philosophy behind them.
